What is a bubble light?

A bubble light is a decorative device consisting of a liquid-filled vial that is heated and lighted by an incandescent light bulb. The liquid in the vial is methylene chloride, which has a low boiling point. The modest heat generated by the lamp causes the liquid to boil and bubble up from the vial's base. The light from the lamp illuminates the bubbles from underneath, causing them to shine.

Are your light strings C6 or C7?

Our light strings are wired in C6 series. They can be used for a number of vintage lights as well as matchless stars.

How long does it take for the lights to start bubbling?

Our original lights bubble in about 5-10 minutes. Oils can take 30 minutes or more to start bubbling. Our shooting star lights can take 45 minutes to an hour to really get going. Please note: If you are started with cold bulbs or bulbs that have been in storage for a long time, bubbling make take longer to begin.

Why are there only 9 lights in a string?

The lights are wired in C6 series. If the string has fewer than 9 bulbs, the bulbs get too hot. If the string has more than 9 bulbs, they don’t bubble. Because the string is wired in series, if one bulb is loose, the string will not light.

What if my child touches them while they are on?

The heat source (light bulb) is encased in a polycarbonate shell. The tube may get warm to the touch, but a person can touch the tube and shell without fearing that it may be too hot or burn.

 

What happens if I break one of the tubes?

Aside from the broken glass, the dyes from inside the tube might stain.
